Stolen boat recovered with help from community and West Coast Marine

A joint effort between the community, the Prince Rupert RCMP and West Coast Marine services have led to a happy ending for one boat owner.

On January 17th, 2024 a boat was reported stolen from the Cow Bay Marina, the Prince Rupert RCMP launched an investigation into the missing boat. While members were gathering information the owner shared that his boat was missing on social media and a community member in Crippen Cove located the boat on shore.

West Coast Marine Services, a branch of the RCMP that serves the coast of British Columbia from the Washington state border all the way to Alaska, landed in Crippen Cove where they not only secured the boat and its contents they made an arrest in connection to the stolen boat. Prince Rupert RCMP members assisted in transporting the man to the RCMP detachment where he was processed.

"Files like this make members smile, when a community comes together to help one of their own and assist in an investigation it makes our job a lot easier and helps victims find justice," Media Relations Officer Constable Brody Hemrich said, "Not only were we able to locate the stolen boat, but because of the specialized training of the officers that responded to the call we were able to retrieve from it from the shore and tow it in."
