On Wednesday, December 13, 2023 significant police resources from throughout the province, including Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit Prince George (CFSEU), Uniform Gang Enforcement Team Lower Mainland (UGET) and North District Emergency response team (ERT) were deployed to Dawson Creek. In the month prior, Dawson Creek RCMP saw a significant surge in violent crimes. Since October 31, 2023 Dawson Creek RCMP have investigated 15 violent crime files with ties to organized crime groups in the area.

The resources focused enforcement on various gangs and drug networks operating in this region with targeted enforcement towards a couple of prolific offenders. There has been increased support from CFSEU, UGET, ERT and BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) since early November with approximately 113 vehicle stops, and 20 individual residences checked in ongoing targeted enforcement.

With an increase in firearms related violence in Dawson Creek, resources from around the Province have, and continue to deploy to Dawson Creek. Focusing on locating and apprehending those responsible in a coordinated effort to maintain public safety. Investigative and operational resources have assisted from Fort St John, North District General Investigation Section (NDGIS) ERT, UEGT, Cariboo Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and BCHP.

Since the onset of the proactive measures, there has been a significant decrease in violence among the groups responsible and no substantiated reports of shots fired or gun related violence in and around Dawson Creek.

Dawson Creek RCMP will continue conducting dedicated proactive enhanced enforcement initiatives, focusing our efforts on apprehending those responsible for the these violent and often public offenses says Insp Steve McLeod, North District RCMP’s Operations Officer. Through proactive policing measures, we are committed to ensuring community safety in the community of Dawson Creek.
