Highlights of the 58 calls the Lake Country responded to during February 26 to March 3

During the morning commute Lake Country RMP, Lake Country Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to several motor vehicle collisions on Hwy 97 near Gatzke Rd. Weather conditions had made the roadways ice covered and quite treacherous. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in these collisions.

February 29 while on patrol on Hwy 97 south of Lake Country an officer was passed a speeding car. As the officer was catching up the speed of the vehicle that passed was found to be in the range of 150 to 155 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone. The vehicle was stopped south of Lake Country on Hwy 97. The nineteen-year-old driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed in the amount of $483 and his father’s car was impounded for 7 days as well. The driver, or his father will also be responsible for the tow and all impound fees.

March 1 while on patrol an officer checked the plate of a parked vehicle in the area of Russell Rd and Pheasant Rd and it came back as unattached. The officer went to investigate and found a male at the vehicle. A check of the vehicle identification number found the vehicle was stolen from West Vancouver. The male was arrested and the vehicle searched. Inside the vehicle was catalytic converters, identity for a number of people, cordless tools and clothing. The identity can be traced back to other crimes from the Okanagan to the Lower Mainland. The male suspect was released from custody after a night in jail and the investigation is on going.

March 2 at around 1:00 am a homeowner reported his garden sheds had been broken into in the 1700 block of Camp Rd with hand and power tools being stolen. Surveillance from a neighboring residence captured the suspect however police are asking homeowners in the area to check cameras to see if they have any video from this time period that may show the suspect. The public is reminded to please lock their sheds as that may be enough to have a thief pass them by. This incident is still under investigation.

Multiple reports of fraud and scams

Lake Country RCMP continue to receive multiple reports of fraud and scams. These activities are taking place by phone, e mail or people attending a residence. Some attempt to play on the victims’ emotions, some are time sensitive, some offer amazing returns on an investment while others are a tough sell technique for services to be provided. Please don’t be pressured into making a payment without being able to ask some question and conducting your own research. Reputable companies and individuals will call back, allowing you to be confident in your decisions. Some resources to assist you in preparing include but are not limited to the following:
