Wandering Person Registry

The Trail and Greater District RCMP maintains a Wandering Persons Registry for vulnerable persons in our community who may suffer from medical or physical condition that led to wandering or other activities that pose a hazard to themselves. The key objective for this initiative is to improve the safety of vulnerable individuals in the Trail and Greater District area by supporting communication between the police and vulnerable person prior to an incident occurring. This information collected should reduced the amount of time that emergency services will need to locate a missing person.
If you believe that you or a loved one would benefit from being added to our registry, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2556 to speak with Constable Karn who is the Wander Registry Coordinator and Community Liaison.
Having the person’s details, a photograph and when and where they are likely to wander can save the police valuable time in locating a loved one.

Assault with a weapon

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to an incident where a 39-year-old Trail man was allegedly assaulted with a cane by a 28-year-old Trail man in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. The victim believed to be hit five to six times before grabbing a nearby pole and striking back at the suspect. The two men knew each other and the public was not in danger at anytime. Neither man suffered serious injuries.
Officers arrested the 28-year-old Trail man for Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code. An officer released the suspect on conditions including having no contact
with the victim.
The 28-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance on May 25, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.
Trail RCMP is responding to incidents involving the downtown vulnerable population. There continues to be a great need to provide safe shelter and spaces to help prevent incidents.

Drug overdose prevented by officer’s quick actions

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 7:17 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of an unresponsive year-old Trail woman who had locked herself inside a bathroom inside a business in the 800 block of Victoria Street. The officer was required to forcefully breach the door and discovered the woman in need of immediate medical intervention due to a suspect drug overdose. The woman was transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and made a full recovery.
Our officer located the woman in obvious medical distress and quick action prevented possible deadly consequences. Trail RCMP believed drug overdoses will continue to be a prominent issue in the downtown area. We encourage the public to learn to recognize the signs and symptoms and contact emergency services if required, or learn to provide drug overdose first aid such as administering NARCAN when needed.

Possession of a weapon

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a foot patrol when he arrested a 34-year-old Trail man possessing a knife on Eldorado Street, in downtown Trail. The officer also executed an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for several alleged previous offences including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The accused remains in police custody at this time and will be brought before a Provincial Court Judge.
