Suspect arrested after security guard stabbed in Ladysmith

The RCMP in Ladysmith arrested a suspect after a security guard was assaulted and stabbed while conducting a check on an open fire on a private forestry land near Ladysmith.

On March 15, 2023, just before 12:00 p.m., Ladysmith RCMP responded to the area of Cameron Rd and Timberland Rd after getting a report that a security guard was assaulted after checking on an open fire in a private forestry land.

Following the check, an altercation occurred between the suspect and the security guard, resulting in the security guard being assaulted and stabbed.

The victim was transported to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

The suspect was later identified as a 66-year-old man of Nanaimo and was arrested the following day.

He was subsequently released on an Undertaking and is set to appear in court, in Duncan, on May 16.
