Fatal ice climbing incident

On March 9th, 2023, at 12:40 p.m., the Columbia Valley RCMP were notified of an injured ice climber approximately twenty-five kilometres up the Kootenay River Forest Service Road.

BC Ambulance, along with Search and Rescue were also deployed.

It was determined that a 35-year-old man from Golden, BC, had fallen while ice climbing. Sadly, the man was declared deceased while on the way to hospital.

The death is not suspicious.

The Golden RCMP is working alongside the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.
