Kitimat RCMP weekly report February 9th - February 15th 2023

Hit and run:

A report of a hit and run was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on February 9th. Ot was reported that a vehicle had been struck on Kingfisher Ave and the second vehicle did not stop. The driver of the second vehicle was located and identified. They stated they had not realized the two vehicles had actually collided. The Kitimat RCMP officer assisted in exchanging the information required between the two parties. 

Two vehicle collision:

During the morning commute on February 10th, the Kitimat RCMP was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Haisla Blvd and Nalabila Blvd. The investigation revealed that one vehicle pulled out too far into the intersection, causing it to be struck by a semi-truck. There were no injuries reported.

Polar Plunge Challenge:

The Kitimat RCMP received a Polar Plunge Challenge from the Prince Rupert RCMP’s Cst Hemrich on February 10th. The challenge is a part of a Special Olympics BC fundraiser. Kitimat RCMP Sgt Rob Gardner responded to the challenge and will be joined by other officers to take an icy plunge into the Douglas Channel on Sunday, February 19th at 1:00 pm from the docks of MK Bay marina, with support from the Kitimat RCM SAR.

Impaired driver:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible intoxicated driver at a construction site on Hailsa Blvd during the evening of February 10th. The vehicle driver was located and provided a sample of breath into an approved screening device. It was found that the driver was intoxicated and was served a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Found and returned wallet:

A found wallet was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment during the evening of February 12th. The owner of the wallet was identified and was able to be contacted. The wallet was quickly returned to the thankful owner.

Causing a disturbance:

During the late evening hours of February 12th, the Kitimat RCMP was called to a business located on Tsimshain Blvd for a causing a disturbance call. The officers attended and located a person outside yelling. It was found the person was intoxicated and was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. After spending the rest of the night in cells, the apologetic person was released the following morning without charges.

Broken vehicle window:

On February 13th, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a mischief to a vehicle. The vehicle had been parked for the morning in a parking lot on the 200 block of City Center. When the owner came out, it was discovered a window has been smashed. Enquiries made by the Kitimat RCMP officer were negative to identify the culprit.

Mischief to window:

A report of a broken house window was received during the evening of February 15th. Investigation revealed that an object had been thrown at the window causing it to break. The officer seized evidence from the area and has reached out to the Forensic Identification Section, in hopes to gather further evidence. If anyone has any information that can assist the police in this mischief, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 and cite file number 2023-530.
