Medical alert activation:

On February 2nd, 2023 the Kitimat RCMP received a check wellbeing call as a medical alert was activated and concerned persons were unable to contact the owner of the alert. Officers attended the residence and were able to confirm that the affected party was ok and had accidently set off the medical alert alarm.

Early morning collisions:

The Kitimat RCMP responded to two separate single vehicle collisions during the morning hours of February 3rd. The first collision occurred on Highway 37, north of Kitimat. It appeared the driver got to close to the shoulder, causing the vehicle to go off the road. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. A few hours later, a report of a single vehicle collision was reported on the Kitamaat Village Road. Although eh vehicle received significant damage, the driver was not injured.

Broken vehicle window:

A broken vehicle window was discovered and reported to the Kitimat RCMP on February 3rd. It appeared that overnight, an unknown culprit(s) had broken the side window of the vehicle, parked on the 400 block of City Center, in Kitimat BC.

Four collisions in four hours:

Black ice in the Kitimat area caused four collisions in four hours on February 5th, 2023. The first vehicle was reported to have gone off the road near the intersection of Nalabila and Hasila Ave. The vehicle was removed from the ditch with no damage and no injuries reported. Less than an hour later, a second collision was reported in Highway 37 near the Hirsch Creek bridge. A vehicle had driven onto slippery part of the highway, causing the vehicle to lose traction and go off the roadway down a bank. No injuries were reported in this incident. The third reported collision occurred on Highway 37 near the Kitimat River bridge. This vehicle had lost traction on an icy patch, causing the vehicle to roll into the ditch, luckily no injuries reported. While on scene an emergency vehicle, parked roadside, was struck when a vehicle coming into the scene had lost traction and slid into the emergency vehicle, causing damages to both vehicles. The emergency vehicle was unoccupied at the time and the driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Mischief to vehicle:

A vehicle, parked on the 600 block of W Columbia Ave, in Kitimat, was reported to have been broken into on February 6th. A window was broken; however, it did not appear that anything was stolen or moved inside the vehicle.

Impaired driver:

During the evening of February 8th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located and a driving while impaired investigation was started. It was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
