Online fraud:

A Kitimat resident attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment on January 6th, 2023 to report a fraud. It was reported that money was transferred to an online trading app that appeared to be legitimate. However, when an attempt was made to remove some funds, they were unable to. The Kitimat RCMP urges residents to do research into online offers or trading apps before sending money. Some sites will go as far as state the site is recommended or promoted by famous/rich people, but they likely are not.

Noise complaint:

During the early morning hours of January 7th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a noise complaint on Konigus St, in Kitimat. It was reported that a dog had been barking continuously for a half an hour. The owner was contacted and advised about the complaint.

Free ice cream:

On January 6th, 2023, during a hockey game at the Tamitik arena, Kitimat RCMP officers from ‘D’ watch attended for a foot patrol. While there, the officers interacted with the kids watching, several tickets were issued. If they were able to answer a safety question correctly, they were provided a ticket… for a free ice cream at Dairy Queen. Approximately 15 tickets were handed out.

IRP Refusal:

On January 11th, 2023, a vehicle was being operated in a manner that caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer that was making routine patrols. A traffic stop was initiated which resulted in an investigation of impaired driving. The driver refused to provide a sample of breath into a roadside screening device. As a result, the driver was issued a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Kitimat Guns-N-Hoses game is back!

After a few years off, the Kitimat RCMP hockey players are very excited to hit the ice again and take on the Kitimat Firefighters in the 2023 Guns-N-Hoses charity hockey game. The puck drops at 7:00 pm at the Tamitik Arena on Saturday, February 18th, 2023.

The money raised in this event will go to the Kitimat KidSport program, which helps make all sporting activities possible for the youth of our great community.

The RCMP has signed their greatest player, Safety Bear for a one-night contract. Safety Bear stated that it would be un-bearable if there was a loss to the fire department. Safety Bear assured that he is bringing his ‘A’ game and looking forward to showing Sparky the Fire Dog what Mounites can do on ice. Safety bear intends on stamping out any sparks the Fire Department may have to get their game going. There will be a pregame ‘weigh in’ between Safety Bear and Sparky on January 19th.
