On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Constable Vanessa Fields and Constable Bert Calvo brought the Indigenous Policing canoe to the Superstore in Duncan, BC, for a Capsize the Canoe
food drive to benefit the Cowichan Valley Basket Society.
With the assistance of M’akola Housing Society, the Cowichan Community Policing & Engagement Society, and Superstore, $1,100 in cash donations and 1533 pounds of food, valued at $5,000, was collected. The Duncan Indigenous Policing Section partnered with the Westshore Indigenous Policing Section and Constable Cole Brewer in order to have the canoe available for this initiative.
The Duncan RCMP would like to thank all of the volunteers from the RCMP Cowichan Valley Community Policing, the manager and asset protection officers from Superstore, the Assisted Living Manager from M’akola Housing Society, and the manager from the Cowichan Valley Basket Society, who came out and spent the day spreading cheer and collecting donations.
