Fraudulent Transaction:

On November 10th, 2022 the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a fraudulent internet transaction. It was reported that a sum of money was sent for a purchase that was not received. It was hopeful that the site that the purchase was made on was going to be able to help receive a refund of the lost money. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone that the majority of the time, online transactions are safe, however, ensure you have enough information about the seller and the purchase you are about to make to ensure you don’t lose your money.

Theft Under $5000

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a theft under $5000 from a business located in the 200 block of City Centre, Kitimat BC on November 10th, 2022. Once on scene, it was reported that some clothing, food and possibly other items were taken from the business without being paid for. The investigation is ongoing to identify the person responsible for the theft.

Icy Road Conditions:

During the morning commute hours on November 11th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of several vehicles unable to navigate along the 2700 block of the Kitamaat Village road. During police attendance, it was noted that several vehicles had Mud and Snow tires, however the ice on the road way was proving to still be tricky to navigate. Tire chains were used to assist the vehicles to carry on their way. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind all vehicle operators that weather conditions can change quickly and ensure you have winter rated tires for snow and ice.

Marketplace Fraud:

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of an online marketplace transaction that turned out to be fraudulent on November 12th, 2022. A local resident reported they had purchased an appliance through a Marketplace website. They sent an e-transfer for the agreed amount; however, the appliance was never delivered. The seller stopped responding to messages. Attempts to identify the seller were negative.

No Lights While Driving:

During the early evening hours of November 13th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP were advised that a vehicle was seen driving north on Highway 37 towards Terrace without any lights on. It was already very dark and the roadway was slippery, there was a concern the vehicle would not be seen by other drivers. With the day light hours getting shorter every day, please remember to turn your headlights on, and even though your daytime headlights are on, your tail lights may not be.

Mischief/Assault Police Officer:

On November 14th, 2022 two police officers were attending to a mischief complaint on Quatisino Blvd, Kitimat BC. While arresting a suspect for the mischief, the suspect began kicking out at the responding officers. During the interaction both officers ended up being kicked, however did not suffer major injuries. The suspect was held in cells, and later released with paperwork to attend court on a future date to answer to the charges of mischief and assaulting a Police Officer.

Collision:

A collision between a transport truck and a pickup truck was reported to the Kitimat RCMP during the afternoon of November 15th, 2022. It was reported that a tractor trailer was rear-ended at the intersection of Highway 37 and Forest Ave, in Kitimat BC. The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Prohibited Driver:

While making routine patrols during the evening hours of November 15th, 2022, a Kitimat RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop. It was found the driver was prohibited from driving. The driver was detained for driving while prohibited, and released on paperwork to attend court on a future date. The vehicle was also impounded for 7 days.
