File # 2022-5515

Police are informing travelers of road delays on Pemberton Portage Rd. near Gates Lake in Birken.

On November 3, 2022, just after 2:00 p.m., Pemberton RCMP responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision on Pemberton Portage Rd. between a dump truck and a pick-up truck.

The investigation is in early stages, and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is on their way to the scene route to assist. Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance Service, and police initially responded to the call. The dump truck driver has remained on scene, and the pickup truck driver has sustained undisclosed injuries.

Currently, traffic is alternating. Police caution drivers to be prepared for winter driving conditions as there is heavy snowfall in the area and temperatures are cold. Police also encourage travelers to inform family and friends of your driving plan so they know you’re safe, as there is little to no mobile phone reception in this area.

Timeline for full re-opening of the road is not yet known, but anticipated to be into the evening sometime.

This is an unfortunate event, says Corporal Angela Kermer of the Sea to Sky RCMP. We’ve got all our resources available working to determine what happened, and to ensure people in the area remain safe.

Sea to Sky RCMP - Pemberton asks anyone with any information regarding the above file or any crime to contact the Pemberton RCMP at 604-894-6634, or, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to www.solvecrime.ca
