Tree down:

A tree down, partially blocking a lane of traffic on the Kitamaat Village Rd, was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 27th. 2022. There had been very blustery days during this time frame, which likely attributed to the falling of the tree. No Power lines or power poles were damage and the tree was cleared quickly, reopening the lane.

Possible fraud:

On October 27th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible fraud. A local resident stated that a collections agency had contacted them requesting a sum of money, they knew they did not owe. The investigation revealed that someone may have possibly opened a cellphone account in the resident’s name and not paid the bill. The investigation is still on going into this matter.

Impaired driving:

While on routine patrol during the early morning hours on October 28th, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle driving toward traffic with it’s high beam lights on. A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired operation of a vehicle investigation was started. It was found the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Check stop conducted:

While on shift on October 29th, 2022, officers of the Kitimat RCMP conducted an early evening check stop. Approximately 40 vehicles were checked during the hour. During eh check stop, one driver was found to have consumed liquor and was provided a 24-hour driving prohibition.

Thrown bottle:

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a mischief on Kechika St in Kitimat on October 30th. The resident had heard a noise and thought possibly eggs were being thrown at the house. Upon attendance, it was found that a bottle of liquor had been thrown, hitting the house and breaking on the ground. No damage was found and patrols were conducted in attempts to locate the culprit(s)

Another tree down:

A second tree was reported to have fallen on the Kitamaat Village road in three days on October 30th, 2022. This time the tree was blocking both lanes of the roadway. Drivers were warned about the blockage with the police vehicles n scene, until the tree could be removed and the roadway opened.

Missing mushroom pickers:

The Kitimat RCMP was alerted to three persons that had gone mushroom picking near Onion Lake and had requested assistance to find their way back on October 30th, 2022. Kitimat Search and Rescue was contacted, attended the area and conducted a search for the missing party throughout the night. Early on the following day, all three persons(s) were able to walk out of the bush and were located, cold and tired but uninjured. The Kitimat RCMP would like to thank the Kitimat Search and Rescue, and the RCMP Police Dog Services for there assistance with this incident.

Good Halloween:

The Kitimat RCMP is happy to report that there was only one call to service related to celebrating Halloween during the night of October 31st 2022. It was great to see drivers slowing down and groups of kids watching out for traffic and each other while out trick or treating.

Fender bender:

A report of a collision between two vehicles on the 1600 block of Haisla Blvd, in Kitimat was received by the Kitimat RCMP on November 1st, 2022. The investigation revealed that one vehicle had stopped for traffic, and the driver of the second vehicle had not noticed until it was too late, striking the rear of the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle received a violation ticket.

Attempted Fraud:

On November 2nd, 2022 the Kitimat RCMP was advised as a possible attempted fraud. It was reported that a citizen had received a phone call from a person that identified themselves as being from a large well-known company. The citizen had provided their personal and credit card information. Looking into the matter further it was discovered that it was likely not a company representative that was being spoken to. The RCMP officer aided and provided direction to ensure that the victim did not lose any money and how to best protect themselves.
