Tenancy conflict

On September 29th, 2022 the Kitimat RCMP attended a residence for a tenancy conflict. An officer
spoke to both parties. The complainant and subject of complaint agreed to resolve the conflict
without further police involvement.

Intoxicated in public

On September 30th at 11:45 pm, the Kitimat RCMP were called to a motel after a report of
someone sleeping in an open area. Upon attendance an officer observed an intoxicated male
who was unable to care for himself. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and
lodged in cells until sober. The male was issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in
public.

False alarm

On October 1st at 01:30 hours, Kitimat RCMP received a commercial alarm at a financial
institution. Upon attendance the property was secure and the alarm was deemed false.

Bear call

On October 2nd at 00:45 hours, Kitimat RCMP responded to a bear complaint at a Kildala
residence. Upon attendance the bear was gone. There was evidence of garbage in the garage. The property representative was asked to remove the garbage.

Fraud presentation

On October 3rd S/Sgt. Morgan, Fern Fontes and Colleen Velho (from Royal Bank of Canada)
attended to the Kitimat Seniors Centre for a fraud awareness - prevention workshop. 32 people
attended the hour long presentation which covered a variety of frauds such as; the lottery scam,
phishing frauds, charity scams, grandparent scam and identity fraud.

Sextortion

On October 3rd at 4:45pm the Kitimat RCMP attended to a sextortion complaint. The
complaint met a female online via Instagram. The female asked the complainant for a nude
video of himself. The complaint sent the video and the female then threatened to send the video
to of his Instagram followers if he did not send money to her. The female suspect is not
believed to be in Canada. The file remains under investigation.

Check wellbeing

On October 4th at 3:30 pm the Kitimat RCMP attended to a check well-being complaint at a
residence. An employer had not heard from a former employee since January. The Kitimat
RCMP attended the residence and the subject of the complaint was home and was advised about
the former employer’s request to make contact.

Fraud complaint

On October 5th the Kitimat RCMP responded to a fraud complaint. The complainant stated he
lost $2,300 from an online bitcoin broker. The file remains under investigation.
