File # 2022-10122

Sometime overnight between September 30 and October 1, 2022 someone spray painted over the new EVERY CHILD MATTERS on the East side Historically Orange Bridge crossing over the Somass River.

Senseless acts such as this are unacceptable and troubling to our community, and revert the efforts towards truth and reconciliation stated Constable Richard Johns Media Relations Officer. Although this crime was not reported to our detachment officers are actively investigating any available leads.

Graffiti on the barricade of the orange bridge

The bridge over the Somass River has recently been painted with a reimagined orange paint job akin to its original orange colour from the 1980’s with the addition of the Every Child Matters being added to the barricades as you approach the bridge.

The Port Alberni RCMP are requesting that anyone with dash camera video or information as to who may be responsible for this are requested to contact the Port Alberni Detachment.
