On September 14, 2022, School District #48, BC Highway Patrol-Squamish, and Squamish RCMP teamed up for back to school road safety enforcement work in efforts to keep students safe as they travel to and from school, issuing a total of 29 tickets.
Enforcement focused on drivers passing stopped school busses with lights on, speeding in school zones, and distracted driving.
During the morning and afternoon bus routes, officers issued four tickets to drivers who failed to stop for a school bus. Throughout the late morning and afternoon while waiting for the end of school day bus drop, officers did speed enforcement in four Squamish school zones, and under the Motor Vehicle Act issued:
- 21 violation tickets for speed in a school zone;
- Two violation tickets for use electronic device while driving;
- One violation ticket for failing to display ‘N’ sign; and
- One violation ticket for fail to obey traffic control device.
The multi-agency work done today was very successful,
says Constable Matt Berinbaum, BC Highway Patrol-Squamish member. But as successful as we were today, drivers need to obey driving laws every day, which ultimately helps keep students safe.
BC Highway Patrol–Squamish, and Squamish RCMP extend thanks to School District #48 Transportation and Grounds for their participation and partnership.
