The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 243 calls between August 22 and August 28, 2022. 90 of those calls occurred over the weekend from Friday to Sunday. Below are just a few highlights of calls for service received:

In the early hours of August 24, RCMP observed a vehicle travelling west bound on Keith Ave. Checks on the vehicle showed that the registered owner of the vehicle was prohibited from driving. The officer initiated a traffic stop and confirmed that the driver was prohibited. The driver was issued an Appearance Notice with a court date for the matter and a vehicle impound notice for 7 days.

On August 24, a man reported that his work truck was broken into while he was staying at a local hotel. A window was smashed out of the truck to gain access and a high value of property was stolen from within the truck. Most of the items were recovered in a nearby field, however an orange duffel bag containing climbing gear was never recovered. On the same date, a second report was received of two vehicles having their windows smashed at a car dealership. At the time of the report, contents of the vehicles were unknown. Police want to remind the public that whenever possible, items of value should not be left in sight within a vehicle. If anyone has further information about these incidents, please contact the Terrace RCMP.

In the early morning of August 24, police received a report of an impaired man driving his pick up in the middle of George Little Park. RCMP attended and located the truck and driver and initiated an impaired investigation. The man refused to provide a breath sample. He was served a 90-day Notice of Driving Prohibition and a 30-day Notice of Vehicle Impoundment.

On August 26, RCMP BC Highway Patrol officer was conducting radar on Hwy 16 west and noted a black sedan to be travelling at a speed of 148 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and advised the female driver the reason for the stop. The woman was an N driver and was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed, and a mandatory 7-day impound of the vehicle. The driver opted to wait for a taxi to depart the scene.

At approximately 5:30 pm on August 26, RCMP were flagged down by two witnesses in a down town parking lot. The witnesses were assisting one unresponsive man who was displaying symptoms of a drug overdose. One of the witnesses had already administered two canisters of Narcan and the man eventually regained consciousness. EHS attended and performed checks on the man and found his vitals to be stable and hospital attendance not required.

In the late hours of August 26, police received a report from a man at a local motel reporting that another man had stolen his vehicle from the parking lot. The stolen vehicle had been running with the owner’s dog inside. The suspect had caused a disturbance inside the motel office, throwing things, after which, he exited the office, got into the running vehicle, and drove off with the dog inside. RCMP attended and located the stolen vehicle and arrested the man for possession of stolen property. The man was given a court date and the vehicle and dog were returned to its rightful owner.

Terrace RCMP received a report of a man attempting to break into a City of Terrace work vehicle with a crow bar. The witness obtained a photo which was shown to police and the suspect was recognized by the officer. Damage was located on the side of that vehicle as well as a nearby vehicle found to have smashed windows, and yet another nearby lawn tractor with smashed windows as well. Officers made patrols for the suspect, eventually locating the man who was still in possession of the crow bar. He was arrested on several offences. The man was released on an Undertaking and a court date to deal with the matter. Two days later, the same man was located in a fenced compound area, actively committing a break and enter. He was arrested again and held in custody for a bail hearing.
