RCMP Week in Review August 15 to August 21, 2022

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 242 calls between August 15 and August 21, 2022. 100 of those calls occurring over the weekend from Friday to Sunday. Below are just a few highlights of calls for service received:

On the afternoon of August 19, police responded to a report of a bike theft in progress. A youth had stolen the described bike near a business on Lakelse Ave and fled the scene. Witnesses provided a description of the youth and direction of travel. The youth was located in a different area of town where he was arrested for theft and the bike was located a short distance away. The youth’s guardian was made aware and the youth was released with a court date. The bike was returned to its owner.

At approximately 3:30 am on August 21, police were making patrols in the Thornhill area for an ATV which had been related to an earlier report. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the ATV fled from police. The officer continued patrols and later located an ATV arriving at an address in Thornhill and suspected the driver to be impaired. The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was issued an immediate roadside prohibition (IRP). The IRP included a 30 day vehicle impound and 90 day licence suspension. Violation Tickets were also issued for driving without insurance, liquor in the motor vehicle and failing to produce driver’s licence.

Police received a report of a dog in distress inside of a parked hot vehicle on Sunday Afternoon, August 21. The driver of the vehicle returned to the car prior to police attendance and left with the dog. Members of the public should be reminded, especially during the current heat wave, not to leave pets unattended in parked vehicles for any amount of time.

Late in the evening of August 21, RCMP received a report of window smashing at a business on Clark Street in Thornhill. Police attended the location and found damage to two windows. The property representative was notified. Initial investigation was completed however at this time there are no leads to pursue the matter.

On August 21, late afternoon, a man was assaulted with a bat and bear mace on the 3400 block of Kalum Street. A witness stated that two individuals came out of nowhere before assaulting the man. The victim was transported to hospital but was not interested in providing a statement to police regarding the incident. While responding to this incident, the victim was found to have an active warrant out of Kitimat and was arrested on that matter and released with a court date.
