Over the past month, the Dawson Creek RCMP have seen a significant spike in stolen vehicles throughout the area. Comparatively to last year, vehicle thefts are up by 47% in the Dawson Creek region, with that number climbing each day. Just within the last 24 hours, 4x vehicle thefts have been reported.

The Dawson Creek RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to lock your doors and never leave your keys; or other valuables such as wallets and purses, within the vehicle. Vehicle thefts are typically a crime of opportunity. Thieves will take time to scope out an area and identify a vehicle which is easy to steal, that typically being one in which the doors have been left unlocked and the keys left inside. Don't make their job easy, take on the "9 o'clock routine" and make it a habit each night to confirm the doors of your vehicle, outbuildings, and home are securely locked and that no valuables are left within plain view.

Report suspicious activity in your neighborhood, we will always come by to check it out! Social media sites such as Facebook or Instagram are not the place to make these reports, be sure to give us a call at (250)784-3700 or report an incident through the online crime reporting tool located here: https://ocre-sielc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/dawsoncreek/en

Reporting suspicious activity allows your local RCMP Detachment to strategically place resources in high-crime areas.
