File # 2021-4149 + 2021-1425

A Merritt man pleaded guilty to break and enter with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm and obstructing a police officer during two separate incidents.

On August 16, 2021, Merritt Front Line Officers were called to Mario's Tow yard on Nicola Avenue as staff had caught a man who had broken into their compound. The man was arrested and identified as Mr. Kyle McIsaac. Search incidental to arrest led officers to find a homemade firearm in his possession.

On March 1, 2022, a warrant was issued for Mr. McIsaac for failing to attend Court in relation to the break and enter and unauthorized possession of the homemade firearm.

On April 15, 2022, Merritt Front Line Officers located Mr. McIsaac riding a bicycle on Nicola Avenue. Mr. McIsaac fled from officers and was arrested after a lengthy chase. See original release here.

On May 17, 2022, Mr. McIsaac pleaded guilty to break and enter with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm and obstructing a police officer. He was sentenced to 21 days in jail (time served), probation for 12 months, a discretionary firearms prohibition for 5 years, a $500 fine and $100 victim surcharge.

"We recognize outcomes like this are frustrating for victims of crime", says Sgt. Josh Roda. "Our officers feel the same frustration, but we will continue to pursue criminals and bring them before the courts."
