File # 2023-44592

Surrey RCMP is advising the public the driver injured in this collision has passed away. The investigation is ongoing. All roads have now been reopened.

On March 23, 2023, at approximately 12:08 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to 72nd avenue between 130 street and 132 street for a report of a single vehicle collision between the intersections. A black Jaguar sedan was travelling west bound on 72nd avenue when it lost control and struck the centre median.

The adult male driver of the Jaguar was taken to a local area hospital in critical condition with life threatening injuries.

From witness descriptions and video it is believed that speed is the major contributing factor to the collision, and the incident is still under investigation.

72nd avenue is expected to be closed between 132 and 130 street for several hours as the investigation is completed. Surrey RCMP requests that motorists avoid the area and find an alternate route for their morning commute.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 72nd avenue between midnight and 12:15 a.m., is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file# 2023-44592.
