File # 2023-5536

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP seized weapons related to an offender recently released from custody into the community on an Intensive Support and Supervision Order.

On October 17, 2023, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP obtained information about an individual who had allegedly been in possession of weapons at his residence. The individual in question was bound by a Deferred Custody and Supervision Order as well as a Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Order.

With that information, the 18-year-old individual was arrested at his residence in Sidney without issues and has been held in custody for a first appearance in Court in Victoria on October 18, 2023.

Among the seized items were a shotgun with ammunition, an extendable baton and bear spray. All items were possessed in contravention of Court ordered conditions that were less than a week old and police are also now forwarding new charges related to unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm, said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931.
