[Cpl. Duff]
Hey Maple Ridge, I’m Corporal Duff with the Ridge Meadows RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.

We heard your concerns about the challenges affecting the downtown core and so, in partnership with the City we’re launching Project Sentinel to address these issues head on.

A Sentinel signifies a vigilant and watchful guardian. For the next two months, you can expect to see an increase in foot patrols by police, Community Safety Officers and volunteers.

Ensuring the safety of the people and businesses operating in Maple Ridge will always be a priority for us.

We look forward to seeing you out there!

A Sentinel signifies a vigilant and watchful guardian. Project Sentinel, which begins today, is a two-month initiative aimed at enhancing public safety in the downtown core of Maple Ridge. Project Sentinel will be concentrated on fostering active engagement, reducing calls for service and continuing to deploy a visible and approachable police presence in the downtown core.

Led by the Ridge Meadows RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), police will be conducting planned foot patrols with frontline officers, police volunteers and Community Safety Officers.

The objective of Project Sentinel is a safer downtown core in Maple Ridge, states Ridge Meadows RCMP Officer-in-Charge, Superintendent Wendy Mehat. With incredible support from our City partners, visible foot patrols will cultivate positive relationships and help address public safety concerns of the business community.

Our downtown is at the core of our community and we are committed to working with our partners and local businesses to enhance safety measures, said Michelle Adams, Director of Bylaw, Licensing & Community Safety. We want to ensure our Town Centre is an inviting, fun and a welcoming space for everyone who lives, works and visits our City.

Ridge Meadows RCMP Mental Health Unit (MHU) will also join CRU for patrols to provide outreach services and referrals to vulnerable residents in the downtown core when needed.
