Serious collision in Maple Ridge, traffic delays expected

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP are advising the public of major road closures following a serious motor vehicle incident at Lougheed Highway and Laity Street earlier today morning.

On May 23, 2023, at approximately 9:05 a.m. police responded to a report of motor vehicle incident in which a cyclist was struck by a vehicle.

Eastbound lanes on Lougheed Highway are completely shut down between Laity Street and 216 Street, while westbound lanes are open.

Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline members were first on scene and with support from BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) assessed that the cyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. BCEHS stabilized the cyclist’s injury and transported them to hospital.

The driver of the vehicle cooperated with police and remained on scene. Impairment is not being a considered a factor in this collision.

Integrated Collison Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is also attending the scene.

This is currently an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
