Police investigating a serious car crash in Maple Ridge, significant traffic delays expected

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating a serious motor vehicle incident at Lougheed Highway and Laity Street in Maple Ridge that occurred on Thursday morning.

On April 27, 2023, at approximately 10:40 am, police responded to the report of a motor vehicle incident in which a vehicle was travelling east-bound in a west-bound lane on Lougheed Highway while approaching Laity Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle hit a curb before hitting a second vehicle and a pedestrian.

Two people have been taken to hospital including one who sustained serious injury.

Ridge Meadows RCMP and the Road Safety Target Team (RSTT) were first to arrive on the scene and police performed life-saving measures on the pedestrian. Maple Ridge Fire Department (MRFD) and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) also attended the scene and took over life-preserving measures before transporting to hospital.

Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) and Integrated Collison Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) also attended the scene. RSTT is investigating all potential causes of the motor vehicle incident.

This is currently an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
