File # 2022-18431

Maple Ridge B.C. – One man in custody after report of a person being shot in a residence last night.

On October 5, 2022, Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to reports of a shooting that had occurred in the 26000 block of Lougheed Highway at approximately 9:00pm. Upon arrival at the residence Police determined that a 52-year-old woman had been shot as well as the family dog.

The woman was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Services with non-life-threatening injuries. The dog died due to the injuries sustained despite attempts made to obtain emergency medical treatment.

Approximately one hour later a 38-year-old Abbotsford man was arrested without incident in Abbotsford by the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team and Abbotsford Police Department.

"The rapid and highly coordinated response and communication between Police jurisdictions, Integrated Teams, the Forensic Identification Support and Emergency Health Services was instrumental in the timely arrest of the suspect" states Superintendent Wendy Mehat, Officer In Charge of the Ridge Meadows RCMP Detachment.

The alleged accused is currently being held in Police custody. This incident is not connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict. All parties involved were known to each other and this was an isolated incident.

This investigation is still ongoing and there are no further details available at this time.
