Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP are working to identify the driver of a car involved in a hit and run where an 85-year-old pedestrian was struck in a parking lot.
On January 12, 2022, at approximately 11:00 AM, Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian struck in a local shopping center parking lot and the driver of the suspect vehicle failed to remain on scene. The collision occurred at the corner of Edge St and Brown Avenue, just east of the No Frills grocery store. An elderly woman was walking across the parking lot when she was stuck by a vehicle. The woman called out as she fell to the ground drawing the attention of witnesses who came to her aid.
Through video surveillance, police were able to identify an alleged suspect vehicle described as;
- a brown Hyundai Elantra hatchback
- with winter rims
- damage to the rear passenger-side door
The suspect vehicle did initially stop after the incident, before circling the parking lot, returning to where the pedestrian was struck, then proceeded to travel West in the parking lot and finally leave the area exiting the lot onto Dewdney Trunk Road.
Police are also interested in speaking with a driver who stopped to assist the pedestrian on scene however, they have not yet spoken with Police. The witness vehicle is described as follows:
- Tan Mazda CX7 being driven by a woman.
The victim was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Services with non-life threatening injuries.
