Maple Ridge, BC – Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating a collision involving a truck and a cyclist.
On July 20, at approximately 5:45 pm, Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline officers and the Ridge Meadows Road Safety Target Team (RSTT) responded to a call of a serious motor vehicle incident involving a pickup truck and a cyclist in the 26000 block area of Lougheed Highway.
The cyclist, a 23 year old woman, was travelling Eastbound when she was struck and knocked off her bicycle by a Grey, Ford pickup truck. Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the scene. No further details will be provided regarding the victim.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 37 year old man from Mission, remained on scene and is co-operating with police. Early investigation suggests that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (ICARS), the Ridge meadows RCMP’s investigational support team (IST), Maple Ridge Fire, BC Ambulance service and the BC Coroners service also attended and assisted at the scene.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends who lost a loved one today…we can’t imagine what they are experiencing right now, states Constable Julie Klaussner.
Please recognize that there are more people on the road, including cyclists, and we want to make sure everyone stays safe.
The Ridge Meadows RCMP thanks the multiple witnesses who stayed on scene and attempted life saving measures on the victim.
Lougheed Highway was closed in both directions for 7 hours to preserve the scene and aid in the investigation.
This is still an ongoing investigation and no further details will be released at this time.
