Maple Ridge BC – Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested a man after a lengthy rooftop standoff.


On June 23, at approximately 1:15 am frontline Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to an alleged disturbance in the 22300 block of Lougheed Highway. A 52-year-old man was breaking window and had climbed onto the roof of a building and refusing to leave. The man was threatening to harm himself and police if they approached. Officers were extremely concerned for his safety. 
 

The Lower Mainland Crisis Negotiation Team (LMD CNT) and the Integrated Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to assist. BC Hydro attended to cut power to the building as the lines were of concern to the safety of the man and those on scene.


After several hours of negotiations with LMD CNT, members of IERT was able to take the man into custody without incident.


"The patience and compassion shown by our police officers enabled a safe resolution for the arrest of the man as well as the safety of the community," states Constable Julie Klaussner.
