File # 2023-36380
Richmond RCMP identify suspect allegedly involved in break and enter mail theft series.
Between November 8, 2023 to November 12, 2023 the man allegedly broke into nine residential buildings. Once inside he then allegedly broke into the mail boxes.
Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit with the assistance of officers from the Vancouver Police Department and Burnaby RCMP were able to identify the suspect.
Officers from our Property Crime Unit review every break and enter investigation in Richmond. By doing this we are often able to link investigations based on video surveillance, modus operandi or other evidence,
says Corporal Ryan Lee, Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit, We also work with other police jurisdictions because criminals don’t stop at the City limits. By working collaboratively we increase the likelihood of identifying suspects involved in property crime offences.
Some general safety tips for residential security include:
- Get to know your neighbours. Knowing who belongs in your building is a great way to protect yourself;
- Don’t let strangers into your building. Most people will understand that you are not being rude by not letting them in. Your neighbours will thank you for helping to keep the building safe;
- Check your mail box every day;
- Talk to your building manager or Strata Council about installing security cameras.
