The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 370 calls for service from Friday March 3 to 9 a.m. on Monday March 6, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Weapon downtown

2023-7555

A woman was arrested for breaching release conditions, following a weapons report.

On March 5, 2023, around 9:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the bus loop at 6th Avenue and Lansdowne Street, where they located a woman with a baton nearby. The woman had probation conditions not to possess weapons.

She was held for court, during which she received a release order and a next appearance date.

North Shore weapons report

A call involving a knife and attempted car theft led to police arresting a youth on the North Shore Saturday night.

On March 4, 2023, around 9:55 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 800-block of Fortune Drive in response to the report, but the suspect described was gone. Shortly after, police were called to another location two blocks away for a male acting erratically, who matched the suspect description.

Police located and arrested an intoxicated youth. A knife was seized for destruction. The youth was lodged in cells to sober up safely, and later released to a guardian.

Mischief, assault police

An alarm in a parking lot led to the discovery of a vandalized car, followed by a smashed police vehicle window, and an assaulted police officer on Saturday night.

On March 4, 2023, just before midnight, a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the 400-block of Lansdowne Street when he heard a vehicle alarm. Upon further investigation, the officer arrested a youth for mischief, but the suspect fled. The officer later discovered smashed vehicle windows.

Shortly after he fled, the youth was located by another officer and smashed a police vehicle window while resisting arrest. He was transported to cells, then to hospital by paramedics. At the hospital, the suspect assaulted a police officer; the officer required medical treatment for his non-life threatening injuries.

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and consideration process.

Intoxicated youths

Several youths were arrested and issued tickets after a police officer was alerted to a group of intoxicated people.

On March 3, 2023 around 8:30 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officer was making patrols on 6th Avenue when he was advised of approximately 20 youths who were intoxicated and causing a disturbance near the bus loop. Multiple members attended and arrested five youths, one of which was assaultive toward officers, resulting in an OC spray deployment by police.

The youths were taken to cells, then later released to their guardians and issued tickets in relation to possession of alcohol by a minor and public intoxication.
