File # 2023-12669

Coquitlam RCMP are inviting the public to a community event following the recent shooting at the shopping plaza located at David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road in Coquitlam on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

This community event will provide residents and businesses an opportunity to ask questions about community safety in their neighbourhood.

When a neighbourhood experiences a serious incident, we know that people can have questions around safety, said Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. Coquitlam RCMP will be in your neighbourhood to talk to local residents about your concerns on Saturday, May 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The event will be an opportunity for the public to engage with Coquitlam RCMP by addressing community concerns by providing emotional support, education and access to additional resources onsite. These resources will include: Victim Services, Community Police Volunteers, Officers from the Community Response Team and Gang Enforcement Team, home and personal safety information, and Block Watch information.

Coquitlam’s Gang Enforcement Team was recently created with existing detachment resources to enhance targeted enforcement towards those who pose the highest risk to public safety because of their actions. The officers will focus efforts in areas of known violent incidents, such as shootings, to deter and disrupt criminal activity while maintaining community safety.
