Man charged with Aggravated Assault

On October 31, 2023, the Merritt RCMP were called to the Nicola Valley Hospital, after witnesses observed a stabbing take place at the adjacent, Merritt Community garden. The suspect fled from the area on foot and the victim, a 42 year old Merritt man, walked into the emergency room with a stab wound to his torso. The victim was in stable condition and ultimately transported to Royal Inland Hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

The suspect was located by Police Dog Services, still in the area, and was safely taken into custody without incident. 

On November 1, 2023, Mr. Braden Douglas Jackson was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, Section 268 (2) CC and held in custody. Mr. Jackson's next court appearance is set for a virtual bail hearing on November 7, 2023.
