Staff Sergeant Jennifer Prunty named new Detachment Commander

The Lower Mainland District RCMP is pleased to announce the selection of Sunshine Coast detachment’s newest Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Jennifer Prunty.

Last week, the Lower Mainland District RCMP confirmed that Jennifer Prunty, the acting Detachment Commander of the Sunshine Coast detachment was the successful candidate in the District’s search for a replacement.

Staff Sergeant Prunty grew up in the Lower Mainland and joined the RCMP in 2000. She was first posted to Duncan, British Columbia on beautiful Vancouver Island. Throughout her career she has had many enriched experiences and diverse postings.

She performed a variety of roles in detachments on Vancouver Island, including as a major crime investigator with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and frontline policing in Campbell River. She counts herself fortunate to have worked in the Nisga’a Nation at New Aiyansh, B.C. where she had her first management role as the Operations Non-Commissioned Officer, as well as a relief deployment to Baker Lake, Nunavut in December 2021.

Staff Sergeant Prunty Prunty has also previously been the Detachment Commander of Gabriola Island and Alert Bay.

In July of 2022 she transferred to the Sunshine Coast as the acting Detachment Commander during a period of a vacancy, and is very happy to have been selected for the permanent position. After several successive moves I am putting down roots in the community and am happy to make the Coast my home. I am honoured to be selected as the Detachment Commander of the Sunshine Coast RCMP and to serve the communities of the shíshálh Nation, District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, and the areas of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. Building connection between police and our communities is a priority for me. Initiatives such as Tea with a Mountie are just one way we can create dialogue at a grass roots level and ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our community members.
