One dead, two injured in head on collision

On September 15, 2024 Smithers RCMP and Smithers BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) were called to a head on collision on Highway 16 west of Raymond Road, in Smithers, BC. A pickup heading east struck a SUV heading west head on at highway speeds.

The pickup had one occupant who was taken to hospital with life serious injuries. The SUV’s driver was pronounced deceased on the scene despite life saving efforts by first responders. The SUV’s passenger was also transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers are continuing their investigation to determine exactly what happened but suspect impairment to be a factor in the collision.

We send our deepest condolences to the families of those involved and have engaged our victim services team to support them.
