File # 2024-8572

On August 27, 2024, a man was stabbed in the throat at a Port Alberni residence. At approximately 10:25pm, Port Alberni RCMP responded to a 911 call in the 4000 block of Maitland St for a report of a male that had been stabbed in the throat by another male that was known to him.

The victim was rushed to West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) by ambulance and a helicopter was requested to airlift the victim to another hospital for emergency surgery. Fortunately, emergency staff at WCGH were able to stabilize the victim and provide life saving interventions locally. The victim remains in stable condition.

On arrival at the scene police learned that the male suspect fled on foot. Additional resources were called out to assist in the search for the suspect as Forensic Identification Services (FIS) conducted an examination of the scene. Port Alberni RCMP members tracked the suspect into the early morning hours the next day and he was arrested without issue.

Port Alberni RCMP want the public to know that they do not have concerns for the safety of the public in relation to this event as that the victim and suspect are known to one another and due to circumstances surrounding the incident.

Port Alberni RCMP requested that the court remand the suspect into custody as they complete their investigation. A court hearing was held on August 28, 2024 and the 24 year old suspect was held in custody for a court hearing scheduled for September 3, 2024.
