Monthly Road Report for June highlights enhanced enforcement and education initiatives

Richmond RCMP continues its commitment to ensuring safer roads for all users through comprehensive enforcement and public education. In June, our efforts resulted in the issuance of 753 traffic tickets, with 729 of these under the Motor Vehicle Act.

June traffic enforcement summary:

Key statistics from June’s enforcement activities include:

• Speeding: 270
• Driver license infractions: 150
• Impaired drug/alcohol infractions: 10
• Distracted driving: 92
• Intersection infractions: 40
• Moving violations: 55
• Seatbelt infractions: 15
• Vehicle related infractions: 119
• Other infractions: 16

These figures reflect our proactive approach to addressing high-risk driving behaviours that significantly contribute to collisions.

Our Road Safety Unit officers have observed an increase in traffic collisions in the following areas, prompting additional enforcement:

• No. 4 Road & Steveston Highway
• Grant McConachie Way & Russ Baker Way
• Bridgeport Road & Great Canadian Way
• Bridgeport Road & Sea Island Way

Highway 91 enforcement:

Our officers continue to conduct enhanced enforcement on Highway 91 due to increased collisions and traffic complaints. Drivers are reminded to slow down and keep their phones away while driving.

E-bike and e-scooter education:

In line with our commitment to public safety, officers are increasing enforcement of e-bikes and e-scooters. Riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations in Richmond before they ride. For detailed information, visit the City of Richmond website.

Summer impaired driving campaign:

July and August mark our summer impaired driving enforcement campaign, conducted in partnership with ICBC, BCACP, and our regional partners. This campaign emphasizes the importance of responsible driving and planning safe transportation when consuming alcohol. For more details, refer to our previous release on Summer Impaired Driving.
