File # 2024-18950

Police located a loaded handgun flagged as stolen out of Texas, during a request to check the well-being of a person in a vehicle.

On June 18, 2024, around 10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended a parking lot on the 1100-block of 8th Street, where a man was slumped over the steering wheel of a black car and reported as possibly impaired.

During the impaired driving investigation, officers located drug paraphernalia near the driver, as well as a loaded pistol, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle and a person known to police.

The suspect was arrested, received a 24-hour driving prohibition for drug impairment and a court date for offences related to possession of the firearm as part of the ongoing investigation. Charge recommendations are anticipated.

Anyone with information that could be related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-18950.
