Erratic driving

On July 4th, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was being operated on Highway 37 in a manner that the complainant described as erratic. It was said the vehicle was driving slowly and all over the road. A good description and location of the vehicle was provided, which allowed the vehicle to be quickly located by the investigating officer. A traffic stop was initiated and the officer was able to rule out impaired driving as a factor. The driver was provided with a warning before leaving the traffic stop. (2024-2411)

Are you missing documents and photos?

On July 5th, an item that was found in the downtown Kitimat area was dropped off at the Kitimat RCMP detachment. The item has what appears to be important documents and photos inside of it. If you are missing these and are able to describe the items and its contents, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 and cite file number 2024-2430. We would like to have these belongings returned to the rightful owner. (2024-2430)

Assault

The Kitimat RCMP was called to respond to an assault at a Kildala Neighbourhood residence at approximately 2:30 am on July 6th. Responding officers attended the scene and located the victim who was seen by emergency health services for non-life-threatening injuries, and transported to a local hospital. The suspect, a26 year old Kitimat resident, was located a short distance away and arrested for the assault. They were released on an undertaking, with conditions, to attend court in Kitimat on a future date. (2024-2442)

Excessive speed/no insurance

While conducting speed enforcement on Highway 37 on July 6th, at approximately 10:30 am, a Kitimat RCMP witnessed a vehicle passing others. The speed was checked on a radar unit and it was found that the vehicle was travelling at 143 km/h in the marked 100 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was initiated and it was further found that the vehicles insurance had expired several months previous. The driver was issued a Violation ticket for speeding and no insurance. The vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. (2024-2445)

Single vehicle collision

At approximately 6:45 am on July 7th, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a single vehicle on the Lower Dyke road. Officers attended and located the driver who was being tended to by emergency services, however was uninjured. Impairment was ruled out as a cause; however, speed was not. The driver was issued a violation ticker for driving without due care. (2024-2458)

Two vehicle collision

A report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 37 near Hirsh Creek Park was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on July 8th, at approximately 7:00 pm. The investigating officers attended and found that a pickup truck towing a trailer and a motorcycle had collided. The investigation revealed that the motorcycle was going to pass the truck and trailer, however the truck and trailer was turning left into the Hirsh Creek Park. The rider of the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, but suffered non-life threating injuries. Violation tickets were given to both vehicle operators as a result of this incident. (2024-2478)

Stolen tailgate

A report of a theft of a truck tailgate was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on July 9th. The vehicle was parked in the Nechako neighbourhood during the day when it was noticed the item was missing. This investigation is still on going and includes canvasing the neighbourhood for any CCTV footage that might be available. (2024-2495)

Aggravated assault

A report of an aggravated assault was received by the Kitimat RCMP just after 5:00 pm on July 10th in the Kitamaat Village. The Kitimat RCMP responded and located an injured victim who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect had left the scene, which resulted in an extensive search of the area. The 21-year-old Kitamaat resident was located and arrested. The suspect was held in custody and scheduled for a bail hearing on July 11th . (2024-2506)
