A Nanaimo man is facing drug charges after being arrested with a large quantity of illegal drugs. The incident occurred in the afternoon of June 27, 2024 in the area of Wesley St in downtown Nanaimo.

Officers assigned to the Nanaimo RCMP Bike Unit were on patrol when they were alerted to an individual who was suspected of trafficking in street level drugs. Just after 2 PM this person was located and arrested. A search of his belongings located just over $1000 in Canadian currency, drug scales, a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and approximately ½ kilo of suspected cocaine.

The man was later released from police custody to allow investigators sufficient time to conduct their investigation and forward their findings to Crown Counsel. Charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x 3 are being considered.

This area has been under considerable pressure for some time from criminals who take advantage of marginalized individuals struggling with various forms of drug additions. As a result, crime has risen in the area. For this reason, our Bike Unit in conjunction with City of Nanaimo Community Safety Officers carry out daily patrols of the area. This seizure is the direct result of their hard work and diligence, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
