Family of 3 dead after crash on Lougheed Highway in Agassiz

On July 9, 2024 at approximately 3:27 a.m., Agassiz RCMP was called to a serious motor vehicle incident on the 8100 block of Lougheed Highway. A vehicle and tractor trailer collided head on causing the highway to be shut down. Lougheed Highway re-opened last night at approximately 5:00 p.m. and is operating with no delays today.

Agassiz RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and Agassiz Fire attended. The vehicle was occupied by a family of three and the tractor trailer by one person.

The two adults in the vehicle, were pronounced deceased on scene. The third, an infant, was airlifted to hospital, where they passed away a few hours later, despite the heroic efforts of first responders and hospital staff. The driver of tractor trailer did not suffer any injuries.

The Agassiz RCMP is working with Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) to determine the cause of this tragic incident. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as a cause.

I would like to thank the officers and all the first responders who attended to this tragic incident and their hard work and dedication to serving the victims and their families. We are working on supporting all those who were affected by this crash and by the loss of an entire family. Mental health supports have been engaged for all of those involved, says Sgt.
