Richmond RCMP is pleased to report significant results from the ongoing ‘Boost & Bust’ operations conducted by our Property Crime Unit, aimed at addressing retail theft and enhancing community safety. These operations, conducted by both our Property Crime Unit (PCU) and frontline officers, demonstrate our commitment to proactive policing and community partnership.

The latest in a series of operations, carried out by the PCU on May 23 and June 15, 2024, resulted in successful apprehension of 16 offenders, and the recovery of over $9,000 in alleged stolen merchandise, including high-value items such as clothing and electronics. Many of those apprehended traveled into Richmond from other communities, with the majority being non-residents.

The PCU operations also resulted in the arrest of a serial offender allegedly responsible for theft of over $100,000 worth of merchandise. Additionally, one individual was found in breach of court-imposed conditions, and a warrant for fraud over $5,000 was executed.

Staff Sergeant Gene Hsieh, Major Crime Commander, stated, Retail theft is a constantly evolving threat that requires a dynamic and regional approach to combat effectively. Our ‘Boost & Bust’ operations are designed to make it less easy for offenders to operate, thereby deterring crime. These operations often reveal links to organized crime and other offenses, underscoring the broader impact of retail theft on community safety. By working closely with local businesses and encouraging timely reporting of crimes in progress, we aim to create a less hospitable environment for criminal activities.

Richmond RCMP continues to encourage local businesses and residents to report any suspicious activities. Your vigilance is essential in helping us deter and address retail theft effectively.

These latest results from the PCU complement the ongoing efforts of our frontline officers, who are also conducting ‘Boost & Bust’ operations to ensure a comprehensive approach to retail theft. Richmond RCMP remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents and businesses.
