File # 2024-16967

A Kamloops man is facing charges including assault with a weapon, in relation to a large police presence on Clarke Street yesterday.

On June 4, 2024, shortly after 11 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers and the Integrated Crisis Response Team (ICRT) attended a residential building on the 100-block of Clarke Street in response to a threats report.

A suspect located on scene was allegedly in possession of a weapon, attempted to assault a police officer, then retreated into his residence. The officer was uninjured.

Concerned for the safety of the officers responding, potential bystanders, and the well-being of the suspect, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requested and quickly received assistance from the BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team, said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge. He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Damon Wade Pierce, 33, of Kamloops is facing a number of charges, including assault of a police officer with a weapon, obstruction of a police officer, and failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing yesterday and remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.

Anyone who witnessed or has information, including video, that may be related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-16967.
