Computer fraud

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a fraud that occurred over a computer on May 30th. It was reported that while the victim was working on their computer, they received a message stating that their computer was hacked and that it could be fixed for a cost. The request was for a sum of money to be paid by Google gift cards. Unfortunately, the victim purchased the gift cards and passed the information for them along, resulting in the loss of money. It is important to know that legitimate companies do not take gift cards as payment. Excessive speed

While on routine patrol along Highway 37, north of Kitimat on May 30th at approximately 8:00pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 147 Km/h in the posted 100 Km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speed. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days as well. (2024-1917)

Loud game

At approximately 10:40 pm on June 1st, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible disturbance at a park behind the 1600 block of Haisla Blvd. The responding Kitimat RCMP officer attended and located a group of teens playing a spirited game of Grounders. A good discussion was had about how late it was and about being respectful to the neighboring houses with noise, but the kids were encouraged to continue to play outside, just a bit quieter. (Sgt Gardner conducted a Google search to learn that ‘Grounders; is a popular version of tag played on play grounds) (2024-1942)

Single vehicle collision

On June 2nd, at approximately 9:30 pm, the Kitimat RCMP was dispatched to a single vehicle motorcycle collision on the 700 block of Enterprise Ave. Upon attendance, it was found that the rider was operating the motorbike without a helmet and was transported to a local hospital for treatment after hitting their head. The investigation into this collision is still ongoing.

Are you missing your wallet?

A wallet was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on June 3rd. The wallet was located in near a bus stop in the Whitesail neighborhood earlier in the day. The investigating Kitimat RCMP officer has made attempts to locate the owner with the information provided within the wallet, but was unsuccessful. If you, or someone you know mentioned they are missing a wallet, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-650-8745 and cite file number 2024-1969.

Indecent drawings

An investigation into mischief was started on June 4th, after the report of profanity and inappropriate pictures were drawn on a building located on the 100 block of Nechako Centre. The building was able to be cleaned off as chalk was used, however it was reported similar things like this has occurred in the past as well. The investigation is ongoing to identify the offenders.
