The Nanaimo RCMP is asking the public for their assistance concerning an incident in which a male was struck in the head and knocked unconscious while walking along a Nanaimo roadway. The incident occurred between 3 pm and 3:30 pm on Wednesday October 18th on Victoria Ave, near the Wellington Beer and Wine Store, located at 3956 Victoria Ave.
The victim, a 59 year old Nanaimo man, told police he was walking by himself and had just passed by the beer and wine store when suddenly and without warning he was rendered unconscious. When he came to he was bleeding from a gash to the back of his head. People working nearby did not see the incident but reacted when they saw him lying on the roadway. BC Paramedics along with police attended. While being attended to the male regained consciousness and was transported to local hospital where he received several stitches to close the wound to his head. To this day, the male has no idea what caused him to lose consciousness and told investigators he does not suffer from seizures and is in good physical health.
Investigators canvassed the area in hope of finding any witnesses or video surveillance but were not successful. The victim later told police all he remembers is hearing the sound of screeching tires before losing consciousness.
Without further information investigators cannot say what actually caused the incident and are unable to proceed further with the investigation, said Constable Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
