Charges laid in smash and grabs at local businesses

Between November 20 and December 13, 2016, a rash of business smash and grabs occurred in the Nanaimo area. Investigators with the Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigations and were able to identify the suspects in these crimes. On Friday, December 23, 2016 the Nanaimo RCMP arrested a male and female for these crimes. They were remanded into custody. On December 29, 2016, 36 year old Dawn Harry, of Campbell River, appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court to face over 20 charges relating to property offences. She was released on an Undertaking given to a Judge and has numerous conditions she must abide by. She will be appearing in Nanaimo Provincial Court on January 24, 2017. 38 year old David Lawson, of Nanaimo, also appeared in Nanaimo Provincial court charged with 16 property offences. He was remanded into custody and will be next appearing in Nanaimo Provincial Court on January 10, 2017.
Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong states the hard work and persistence of the investigators led to the arrest of the suspects thus preventing further property offences being committed by Harry and Lawson over the holiday season.
