Cops for Cancer: Tour de North wraps up in Prince Rupert

After seven days and over 850 kilometers of biking the Cops for Cancer Tour de North finished in Prince Rupert on Thursday September 21st, where the riders were greeted by a heroes welcome.

Eleven riders were brave enough this were to take on the challenge, which started September 15th in Prince George, but the journey started long before that even with fundraising efforts beginning in January of this year. The number at the end of the tour was a whopping $125,000 and still growing with donations being accepted into November. 

All money raised will help fund childhood cancer research as well programs such as Camp Goodtimes. To donate click here.

Of note for the Prince Rupert community two local riders participated in the ride Kasper Green, of the Prince Rupert Fire Rescue and the RCMP's own Constable Jacque Van Wyngaardt.

"Everyone one of us has been directly impacted by cancer, whether it was a relative a friend or someone we know," Inspector Gerald Walker of the Prince Rupert RCMP said to the group, "you should all be very proud of what you accomplished the money you have raised to find a cure for cancer."

The Prince Rupert RCMP wants to thank everyone that supported Constable Van Wyngaardt in his fundraising efforts as well the Prince Rupert Fire Rescue for lending us Firefighter Green who was a huge part of the team and helped keep morale up throughout the trip.
