2023-2309 – Assault
On April 30, 2023, at about 1:45 a.m., two man were outside a local liquor establishment on Cleveland Ave. and got into a fight. One man knocked out the other to a degree he was briefly unconscious, and BC Ambulance took him to the hospital for further treatment. He subsequently did not suffer significant injuries, and later did not wish to pursue assault charges against the other man, so the police file has been concluded.
2023-2311/2023-2305 – Impaired driving
On April 30, 2023, around 4:30 a.m., a road maintenance crew member reported he was roadside with an impaired driver. The crew member had taken the driver’s keys and had the driver move from the driver seat to a safe area so he could not put the car into motion. Police arrived, saw obvious signs of impairment, and had the driver provide breath samples - both results were FAIL.
On April 29, 2023, Sea to Sky RCMP Squamish members were doing a sobriety check stop when a car did not stop for the check. Members caught up to and pulled over the car. The driver showed signs of impairment and told police he had one drink earlier, but his breath test indicated different as he failed twice. Police issued the new driver a violation ticket for driver contrary to restrictions.
In both instances police issued drivers 90 day driving prohibitions and impounded cars for 30 days under the Motor Vehicle Act.
2023-2300 – Assault with a weapon
On April 29, 2023, just before 8:00 p.m., a man was walking his dog along Stawamus Rd. when a truck sped by. The man yelled at the driver to slow down, and the driver bear sprayed the man and drove away. BC Ambulance assisted to help the man decontaminate himself from the bear spray. Police located the driver, arrested him for assault with a weapon, and he was released with a future court date. Both men are familiar with each other.
2023-2226 – Stolen vehicle/possession of stolen property
On April 26, 2023, just before 4:00 p.m., dispatch informed Sea to Sky RCMP members of a stolen white Model 3 Tesla being tracked by its owner, and the car was travelling in excess of 160 km/h on Highway 99. Members located the car near Highway 99 and Alice Lake Rd., and they arrested both the man and woman who were inside, for possession of stolen property. The man was already on conditions not to be in a car without the owner’s consent and he was also arrested for breaching his conditions.
