File # 2023-2286

The driver of a motorcycle involved in a serious accident remains in hospital with serious, undisclosed injuries and continues to receive medial attention.

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, at about 9:20 a.m., Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a collision near Britannia Beach on Highway 99. A motorcycle driver travelling southbound, struck a moving car after losing control of his bike. Police believe speed is a factor in the collision.

The motorcycle driver sustained serious injuries and his bike was not driveable. The people in the car were not injured.

In addition to the Squamish RCMP, the accident required a multi-agency response including BC Ambulance, Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Miller Capilano, local tow company, and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

Highway 99 was closed for about five hours for responders to tend to the scene, for the air ambulance could land to transport the driver, and so ICARS could do their investigation.

The investigation remains active, says Corporal Angela Kermer, Sea to Sky RCMP. In particular, we can determine the extent of speed being a factor once we finish gathering and assessing different forms of information such as statements, photos, and accident measurements.

Sea to Sky RCMP recommends travellers keep a safety kit in their cars, with necessities such as water, snacks, a first aid kit, medications, a charging bar for devices, and anything else you think you may need for these types of situations. Also, listening to local radio and/or Sea to Sky RCMP social media for announcements will help facilitate both personal safety and access for responders.
