The Prince Rupert RCMP are currently investigating two incidents of arson they believe to be connected.
The first event occurred in the early morning of January 30th, 2023 when Prince Rupert Fire Department was called to a house in the 1600 block of 11th Ave E for what they originally believed to be an electrical fire. However, after police reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding houses they noticed a man wearing all black causing the fire to ignite the side of the house.
The second even occurred in the early morning of February 10th when the Prince Rupert Fire Department responded to a report of a car on fire in the driveway of the same house from the first report. When CCTV footage was reviewed police discovered a man with a similar build and wearing similar clothing was responsible for the car being lit aflame.
In both events Prince Rupert Fire Department reported that both fires were extinguished quickly and there were no injuries.
"Thanks to the quick response from our partners in the fire department both incidents were handled quickly and safely," Media Relations Officer Cst. Brody Hemrich said, "These events appear to be targeted as they occurred at the same address, therefore the threat to the public is low, however, due to the violent nature of these incidents we are looking for any leads that can help lead to an arrest."
